HOW ABOUT A SOCK HOP?

 Oops, I mean a sock swap. I’m participating in Mary Lou Weidman’s Sock Swap and these are my first attempts at doing a Hoochy Mama and making a sock block. If you haven’t taken a class from Mary Lou, you might not understand what “Hoochy” means. You’ll have to get one of her fabulous books to learn how to do it. One of the steps in her sock pattern is to “Hoochy” the heel. I adore Mary Lou’s patterns and if you haven’t seen her beautiful quilts, check out her link on my sidebar where you can also keep updated on her quilts and what she’s up to. She’s creative and inspiring. The Hippie Quilt she has on her blog today is a must-see. It is a hoot and sure brings back memories.

This is a close up of one of my socks. As you may know, I’m not fond of piecing. Other than the fact that my seams never match and my blocks are never square, I also get bored doing the same thing over and over again. Mary Lou’s technique is not boring. You stay engaged because when you hoochy this and hoochy that you must decide where to do it. You don’t have to worry about anything matching either. I’m really not sure if I’m doing this right, but I’m having fun playing with fabrics. I’m anxious to see what others in the group are doing. I might have to make some adjustments or start all over, which will be fine because these blocks are a snap to make. I want to do some more of her free piecing and plan to try a flower power border next (get her Flower Power book and see what I’m talking about). Also, scroll down on her sidebar to where she asks you to “come and join people who love whimsical quilts and friendship with quilters.” It’s a great group.
