LET'S GO PLAY WITH DOLLS

When I was working with Maggie at the Attic Window Quilt Shop the other day, Julie’s doll class was in session.  Look at these Gail Wilson French Fashion dolls.  They were made by Barb Vis during Julie’s doll classes.  Aren’t they beautiful?  Notice the tiny buttons and the handmade button loops.
Look at them from the back.  Notice how elaborate the hair is on the one and how the other has a snood.

I can’t imagine how Barb does such intricate work.  I couldn’t take a picture of it because my camera was having focus problems (it was not the operator of course) but one of the bonnets had a quarter-inch ribbon across it and Barb had hand embroidered flowers on the ribbon!  It is stunning.  Here you can see that she embroidered the petticoat too.  Barb said that she made parasols for both of these dolls out of fabrics that coordinate with their outfits.  One of the dolls will be for sale in her Esty shop.  If you are interested, go to Etsy.com and look under “sellers” for BarbsHandMade.

What made me start talking to Barb was that Maggie had this scissors keeper (above) and I was so taken with the delicate work I had to learn more about it.  Maggie told me that Barb Vis had made it for her.  Barb said it is a great way to use up those wool scraps.  She said that one year she made 17 of them.  Isn’t it the cutest thing you ever saw!  Thank you Barb for sharing with us.

Don’t forget to check out the class schedule on the sidebar.  I notice Julie has a new doll class starting this week.  New York Doll was designed by Gail Wilson and is her version of the antique doll that graces the cover of Wendy Lavitt’s book American Folk Dolls.  New York Doll is 16” tall and has embroidered facial features and hair. Her hands have separate fingers with a ring and she holds a small folksy cat. Her eyebrows are embroidered with the featherstitch.  Call the shop for further details.

Bejeweled Quilts has a cute Owl pattern for you.  I can see it made into a pillow or used in a quilt.  Maybe even a wallhanging for a child’s room would be cute.  Check it out.
Stay Positive!
