GREAT LAKES MODERN QUILT GUILD FORMED

Do you like Modern Quilts?   Have you been bitten by the bug for this new fresh approach to quilting?  I remember when I first started quilting my granddaughter asked me if I could make her a quilt, but she wanted something with bright colors and NOT a lot of “grandmotherly” flowers.  I did the best I could at the time.  That was before this new and growing movement took off.  Now there are all these lovely books to show us what a Modern quilt is and how to make one. This past Saturday, seven of us women got together to discuss our desire to form a Modern Quilt Guild on this side of the state.  During our productive meeting it was decided to form such a group and call it the Great Lakes Modern Quilt Guild.  I’d like to introduce you to the “founding mothers.”

Stephanie P., above, has graciously accepted the daunting task of serving as our President.  Stephanie is an organized person, a university professor, and has her own quilting blog – Peas In A Pod.
Other members who attended and agreed to be officers are from left to right above,  Jane P., Secretary;  Holly S., Chief Operating Officer; Lisa R., Project Support (Lisa also has her own blog – Color My World.)
Also in attendance and accepting officer positions are, from left to right, Carolyn Z. who has already gotten the Web Site for the Great Lakes Modern Quilt Guild up and running.  You can see it here.  Next, is Adrienne W. who is the new Vice President and is already working on getting a place for our first Sew-In as well as planning for other events.  Stephanie, our President.   Not in the picture, is me, who has accepted the Treasurer position.

We are all very excited about this new adventure and in no way want to compete or replace our local Guilds.  We just want to support and encourage the growth and development of modern quilting.  We are also affiliated with The Modern Quilt Guild which is made up of a number of quilt guilds across the country and around the world.

We are still in the organizing stage and will have our NEXT MEETING ON SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 23 AT 10:00 AM-12:00 PM AT THE RANSOM DISTRICT LIBRARY IN PLAINWELL.  Anyone who is interested in becoming a member of this group, please feel free to attend.

On Another Note:   Make It and Love It has a darling Fishy purse for you to make.  Check it out.

Until next time,

Stay Calm! Stay Kind! Stay Positive!
